Why should the air handling capacity of a dryer be greater than the compressor discharge?
Because the dew point temperature of the air has to be taken into account. Compressed air, after passing through the compressor, contains a certain amount of water vapor. The dryer needs to remove this excess water to bring the compressed air to the desired dew point temperature. If the dryer's capacity is the same as the compressor's exhaust volume, the air may not be dried sufficiently during the process due to insufficient margin, resulting in a final compressed air quality that does not meet the requirements.
